The R.M.S. Titanic set sail from England on April 10, 1912. On April 14, 1912, the ship hit an iceberg, which caused irreparable damage and ultimately caused it to sink on April 15, 1912. 100 years later, the sinking of the Titanic still fascinates the world. As a recent New York Times article notes, there are several television specials set to air to commemorate the sinking.
The Titanic’s maiden voyage carried approximately 2,200 individuals, including both passengers and crew-members, and lost over 1,500 individuals in the tragedy. Apparently, 150 of the victims are buried in Halifax, Nova Scotia after the bodies were recovered from the ocean.1 It seems that in 2009, the last of the Titanic survivors passed away, when Elizabeth Gladys Millvina Dean died at 97 years old. She was just over two months old when her family set sail on the Titanic. 2
