Ian Fleming

Did you know that the author of the James Bond books is the same author of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Ian Fleming is the creator of James Bond and wrote the books that ultimately were made into box office hits. He had worked as an assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence in the Admiralty in London during World War II, which helped provide inspiration and material for the Bond adventures.1 Casino Royale was actually the first book written and he went onto write thirteen more books, including two which were comprised of short stories.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was inspired from a bedtime story Mr. Fleming would tell his son at night.2 It too was made into a movie and eventually a musical.

Mr. Fleming died at 56.

  1. Jen – very interesting! I grew up with Sean Connery as James Bond and had read every original Ian Fleming by the time I was 13 (I’m 50 now). And I most certainly remember going to the Boyd Theater (we had three in Bethlehem, PA!) and seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – my goodness, I remember the words!

Thanks for a good laugh at the end of a long day and the beginning of a long night.

    Kevin
