Free iStock PhotoToday is the 36th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. Presley died at the young age of 42 at his home in Memphis, TN. However, even in death, Presley’s work, image and legacy have a strong earning power. In 2011, Forbes listed Presley as the No. 2 Top-Earning Dead Celebrity, with an estimation of $55 million.

Presley’s estate has been well managed over the years, ultimately at the hands of Priscilla Presley; Elvis’ ex-wife whom he divorced in 1973. For more information on the Estate of Elvis Presley, the Elvis Presley Trust and Elvis Presley Enterprises, click here.

There will be a candlelight vigil beginning tonight until tomorrow morning to commemorate the King’s death. The annual celebration began the year after Elvis’ death and has grown over the years – even internationally in Japan, Brazil, Germany and other countries.
