Rocky Marciano was born Rocco Francis Marchegiano in Brockton, MA. He grew up to be one of the most legendary heavyweight fighters of all time. He earned the nicknames “The Brockton Blockbuster” and “The Rock from Brockton.”
Rocky fought 49 heavyweight fights in his career and won all 49 fights. He is the only person to go undefeated in his entire career and held the heavyweight boxing title for four years. Rocky retired on April 27, 1956 at the age of 31.
After Rocky retired, he would travel the country to make personal appearances to make money. On August 31, 1969, Rocky was in Des Moines, Iowa when the plane in which he was traveling crashed and killed him and two others. Rocky would have turned 46 the next day.
