December 21, 1959 – September 21, 1998
Florence Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo Jo, passed away fifteen years ago today at the young age of 38. Griffith Joyner was an American track and field star, who most notably won three gold medals and a silver medal in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. The track star had suffered seizures a few times in the past and had suffered an epileptic stroke that ultimately took her life.
Flo Jo’s estate faced a few problems when she passed. Her husband was unable to locate her original estate planning documents and therefore, was unable to timely file them with the California probate court. Additionally, there were disputes between Griffith Joyner’s husband and mother during the administration of the estate and eventually, a third-party was appointed to finish the administration.[1]
