Jesse Owens

/ March 31, 2011

September 12, 1913 – March 31, 1980

This summer it will be 75 years since Jesse Owens captured four gold medals in track and field at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. At a time when Hitler was touting the “Aryan race” as superior, Mr. Owens, born James Cleveland Owens, dispelled that myth by showing the world that he was superior.  It has been 31 years since his death but Mr. Owens’ impact on sports and athletes, regardless of race, lives on.
